About the Trip
Towards the end of 2006 I began looking into my maternal family history. Using the patchy information we had on our family background we made some early breakthroughs which lead to finding out more and more until we were able to conclusively trace our family back to 17th century Scotland. You can find out more about that at 12generations.com.
During this time I made the comment that it would be great to go to the UK and see these places that our family once inhabited, and now, just a few months later it’s happening.
We have always known the family came from England, my Mum was born there, but it was fascinating to find out the different areas the family actually came from starting most recently in Yorkshire and going back through Derbyshire, Leicestershire, Northumberland and ultimately Scotland.
My Mum has labelled the trip “Ancestral Trail 2007″ (you can see her thoughts on the trip at her blog) and that’s really what it started out as, but we will also be touring the rest of the countryside including Wales, by driving from London and then in a roughly clockwise direction through Wales up to Scotland and back down through England.
You can see our itinerary to find out exactly where we’re going.
